The $11 million apartment complex for working families is The Landmark Group’s second affordable-housing project announced in Texas. In June the developer received tax credits to convert two historic buildings in Beaumont, Texas, into senior housing. “We are proud to be part of the downtown Tyler revitalization,” said Paul Fitch, Landmark’s Texas project manager. Design of the apartments, to be known as Moore Grocery Lofts, will be finished later this year with construction to start in 2007. The Landmark Group (www.landmarkdevelopment.biz) has completed or under development more than $300 million worth of mixed-use projects to revive downtowns, restore aging neighborhoods and create affordable housing in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
In June, Landmark’s conversion of a tobacco warehouse in Kinston, N.C., won a Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award from the Affordable Housing Tax-Credit Coalition for the best project nationwide in communities with populations under 50,000. In July, the City of Newberry, S.C., received a Municipal Association of South Carolina Achievement Award for a historic hospital that Landmark converted into senior housing.
