September 6, 2007 Winston-Salem Developer Named National Finalist for Historic Renovation Award;
WINSTON-SALEM—The Landmark Group of Winston-Salem has been named a 2007 “Timmy Award” finalist for excellence in historic renovation by the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association. Landmark was cited for its $4.1 million renovation of five buildings along two blocks in downtown Weldon, a Halifax County town of about 1,300 residents 90 miles east of Raleigh. The project, completed in 2006, created 24 apartments and three street-level commercial spaces. Landmark used federal and state historic tax credits as well as federal affordable housing tax credits to secure financing. The project was named one of two finalists nationwide in the affordable housing category for developments of under $5 million. The winner will be announced Oct. 29 at the National Housing & Rehabilitation Association’s fall meeting in Boston. The J. Timothy Anderson Awards for Excellence in Historic Rehabilitation honor outstanding real estate projects throughout the United States that involve rehabilitation of older, historic buildings using the federal historic rehabilitation tax credit.
The Landmark Group has completed or under development almost $400 million worth of mixed-use projects to revive downtowns, restore aging neighborhoods and create affordable housing in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
