March 10, 2008 Loft Apartments for Working Families to Open Next Month in Historic Danville DANVILLE, Va.—Thirty-seven loft-style apartments for working families will be ready for occupancy next month at 614 Lynn St. in downtown Danville. Known as Lynn Street Lofts, the new apartments are being created through the $6.2 million building renovation in the Tobacco Warehouse Historic District. There will be commercial space on the street level of the refurbished warehouse. The mixed-use project is by The Landmark Group, award-winning developers based in Winston-Salem, N.C. An affiliated company, Landmark Property Management Co., which handles more than 2,300 units in seven states, will manage the property. “We are pleased to be part of Danville’s economic rebound,” said Jim Sari, CEO of The Landmark Group. “Lynn Street Lofts provides top-notch housing for the city’s growing workforce while preserving the historic integrity of its past.” Lynn Street Lofts will feature hardwood floors, high ceilings and exposed brick and ductwork meant to preserve the building’s historic character. There will be new kitchen appliances, including dishwasher and garbage disposer, as well as electric heat pumps and air conditioning. Each unit will come pre-wired for cable and Internet access. In addition, Lynn Street Lofts will include a community room; technical learning center with computer and online access; and laundry. City Manager Jerry Gwaltney said that Lynn Street Lofts—the fourth adaptive reuse project in the Tobacco Warehouse Historic District—is a compelling example of how an old warehouse can be converted into a new residential development. “We welcome The Landmark Group to the City of Danville and appreciate the contribution this project will make in providing an affordable housing alternative for our citizens,” he said. The apartments will be restricted to families with household incomes between 40 percent and 60 percent of the area median income for Danville, adjusted for family size. For example, a family of four with a household income of $30,360 would be eligible but a family of three with the same income would not. Monthly rents for the two- and three-bedroom lofts will range from $354 to about $610, depending on the size of the unit and household income. For rental information call (704) 322-0522. Lynn Street Lofts will also include three commercial spaces with a total of 8,000 square feet of space. For leasing information call (336) 714-8939.
The Landmark Group has completed or under development more than $400 million worth of mixed-use projects to revive downtowns, restore aging neighborhoods and create affordable housing in the Carolinas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
