Winston-Salem, NC: Piedmont Leaf Lofts |
| Description: The old tobacco warehouse at the eastern edge of downtown Winston-Salem stood as a stark reminder that manufacturing was no longer the engine driving economic growth in the city. Financial services and biotechnology had become far more important, and each sector had made significant investments downtown. |
| Impact: With easy access to interstate highways and an easy walk from the Piedmont Triad Research Park and other major employers, the dramatic lofts are an integral part of rebuilding the residential base of downtown Winston-Salem. After the first phase of renovation was successfully completed in 2002, The Landmark Group turned to the conversion of additional warehouse space into high-end residential lofts across the street. Those lofts were completed in 2006. |
Key Ingredients:
- Historic Property Tax Credits
- No mark-up on development and construction

|
| " The Piedmont Leaf Lofts project is an outstanding example of the efforts we seek to recognize--efforts that enhance and improve the visual quality of our city and county. " |
